I love accessorizing with jewelry but I usually gravitate towards cheap costume jewelry that I can filter in and out by trend or vintage pieces I find in my travels. As I get older, though, I’m becoming more interested in high-quality jewelry. On a recent trip to my grandmother’s she showed me her collection of sentimental pieces in real metals and jewels. What struck me is that these weren’t just accessories, they were memories. And because of the quality they had lasted her a lifetime. Enter Michael Hill.
My qualm about fine jewelry was always the price tag, but Michael Hill finds the middle ground between quality and price with a selection of beautiful items in a variety of price ranges. Recently I’ve been drawn to delicate, stackable piece. A few of my favorites include this black cubic zirconia ring, this glamorous sapphire and pearl ring, this yellow gold leaf pendant, and this geometric pendant in yellow gold.
I do most of my shopping online and their site is easy to use. You can filter by collection, style, and price. You can also locate a store if you find something you like but want to try it on in person. The closest store to New England is in Garden City, New York, an easy stop on your way to NYC. I have a penchant for gold over silver, which is another burden on my wallet, but I was surprised to find a good number of affordable gold pieces, especially if you look through the sale section.
My biggest tip for online jewelry shopping, and really for all shopping, is not to get boxed in by what things are supposed to be. For example, I found quite a few wedding bands that could easily be worn as stackable rings on another finger, like this white gold one. Just because it’s suggested for a one purpose doesn’t mean you can’t wear it for another.
The cherry on top of the Michael Hill experience? Their customer service. They offer free returns within 60 days, which is essential when buying online. They also have a lifetime guarantee on diamonds so if your diamond comes loose from its setting or gets damaged they’ll replace it free of charge. Finally, free shipping on all U.S. orders. Music to my ears.
