As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a writer and stylist for Emerson’s Atlas Magazine. This semester we’re trying to put out our first print issue ever. It’s really exciting that we’ll be able to have a tangible magazine to show to our friends and family. These are some sneak peak backstage photos from the shoot I styled.

You might not recognize this model as my suitemate Michele from this post. Over spring break she got a pixie cut and it looks amazing. Now she’s modeling for Atlas! Her photos were fierce.

We shot at the ICA which proved to be a really cool urban background that contrasted with the ancient myths the models were portraying.

The theme of the shoot was mythological creatures, this is our Medusa getting her hair and makeup done.

This is our Sphynx, also in hair and makeup.

We’re still trying to raise money to fund a print issue so if you can donate anything, even so little as a dollar, it will be greatly appreciated! Please help us make this dream a reality. Here’s the link the our kickstarter where you can donate to the cause. Thanks so much!

Keeping It Casual

Boston, Bustier, Jeans, Multi-purpose

Boston has had a sudden temperature drop back to the normal March 35 degrees. When I woke up and realized it was no longer 75 and beautiful I decided it was time for a casual day. It’s not often I stick to basics like this but even fashionistas need a day off!

This shirt is actually the dress that I wore in this post, I love the bustier detailing so I folded it up into a shirt for the day.

Dress (worn as shirt): Forever21
Jeans: Pacsun
Blazer: TJ Maxx
Coat: TJ Maxx
Shoes: Christian Siriano for Payless

Especially in the streets of Boston, sometimes wearing 4-plus inch heels just doesn’t work. I always carry a spare pair of flats in my bag in case the cobblestones get to be too much. Don’t get me wrong, I am the first person to try sky high heels in every day life, but I do value my ability to walk.

The other day it was a perfect 70 degrees and sunny, totally unheard of for March in Boston. My suitemates and I took a long walk on the esplanade and walking by the water in the sunshine reminded me of walking by the Seine around this time last year.

Especially with the weather getting warmer, it’s become so easy to just slip on a dress and head out the door in the morning. On days when I don’t like the outfit I planned or don’t know what to wear, a dress accented with a belt or a statement necklace has become my uniform.

Boston, Bronze, Metallic, Multi-purpose

If you look carefully at this outfit you’ll notice that this a remix of the dress I wore here. It’s amazing how just adding a few pieces can make a party dress perfect for daytime too.

I’m especially fond of this look because of the combination of textures. The smooth shine of the dress with the wool is an unlikely mix but it works. Pairing unexpected textures is a great way to add visual interest to an outfit.

Dress (worn as shirt): Forever21
Skirt: H&M
Tights: TJ Maxx
Shoes: Payless
Necklace: Forever21

I loved the look of rompers over the summer so I wanted to find a way to style them for winter. I like the way it turned out, especially with this romper in particular because of the asymmetrical neckline.

Blazer: TJ Maxx
Romper: Wet Seal
Tights: TJ Maxx
