Paris was amazing! One of the best parts was seeing how nice everyone looked. Well not everyone, I can’t speak for the tourists. But the native Parisians were all so well dressed! I noticed several distinct trends.
1. Everything was well tailored. There were lots of skinny jeans and well-cut jackets. No one was wearing anything baggy or over-sized, or too tight. Everything looked like it was made for that person. I think tailoring is a very important thing that people dismiss too easily. It doesn’t cost much to have something taken in here or hemmed there and it makes a huge difference.
2. Scarves, scarves, scarves! Everyone was wearing scarves! Generally they were long, thick cotton scarves but I also saw some silk ones. Every street vendor had scarves as well, and almost every store we went into had a separate display for scarves. I’ve always loves scarves, they’re such an easy way to give an outfit visual interest. I bought a few while I was there and I just love how thick they are. The scarves here just don’t fall the same way.
3. Everyone has nice jackets. There are no North Faces in Paris, thank god! I noticed that everyone had very nice jackets. I saw all different styles, military, peacoat, swing jackets etc. but they were all well-cut and nice looking. Coming from a town where most people wear North Faces or hoodies as their outerwear it was such a relief to see people who care about their outerwear!
After reading so many blog posts about Paris fashion it was incredible to finally see it on the streets! It’s nice to know there’s a place out there where everyone doesn’t wear athletic clothes on a daily basis.
