A few months ago I was asked by Nikki, the founder of the 99 Dresses app, to test drive the beta version. It was incredibly cool to be one of the first people to try out the new smart phone version of a clothing swap. In late September the app went live and it’s now available for download on all smartphones.
The idea behind the app is that women all over the country can swap their used clothes for new ones. All the clothing is FREE, you only pay for the shipping costs. As you list old items from your closet, you earn buttons. Then you use these buttons to claim items from other people on the app.
All you have to do to list an item is snap a photo and put in the size, condition, brand, and purchase price. This helps the app decide how valuable the item is and how many buttons to list it for (e.g. Louis Vuitton is more buttons than JCrew).
99 Dresses is a cool, cheaper alternative to other apps like Poshmark. There’s even a feature to meet up with women local to you to trade items in person. This removes the shipping fee and makes the process totally free.
Designer brands for the cost of a few “buttons?” I’ll take it.
Please Note: 99 Dresses provided me with early access to the beta version of the app, but all opinions expressed here are my own.
