This year I was lucky enough to attend the annual Dress for Success Self-Sufficiency Luncheon. This charity event benefited the Boston branch of Dress for Success and celebrated the community impact they’ve made this year.
Held at the InterContinental Boston, it was like a scene right out of Gossip Girl. Crowds of well dressed men and women sipped their drinks and greeted old friends. Several women who had been helped by Dress for Success were at the event as well, and a video was presented of their experiences.
Major compliments to the chef who catered this event. I’ve found that large luncheon’s like these end up having to sacrifice quality for quantity, but the offerings at Dress for Success were outstanding the whole way through.
Mayor Thomas Menino donated one of his famous ties as a gift to a retiring member of the Dress for Success board of directors. He also confirmed what I have thought for years. That, “Clothes are so, so important.”
A live auction was held after lunch, facilitated by Susan Wornick of WCVB. Tens of thousands of dollars were raised for the cause during the auction alone. Susan did a fantastic job, adding humor and wit to spur the audience on.
I’m so grateful to have been part of such a wonderful event. Hearing from the women who have participated in Dress for Success was so inspiring. It’s amazing the way clothing can empower women and help them to re-claim their lives.
