The Great Wave

May 13, 2015,
by Celina[zilla_likes]

I spotted this dress on OASAP around the same time the Hokusai exhibit opened at the MFA. I had to have it. The wave print is not only a cute summer pattern but also a pointed allusion to the famous Japanese artist. I hemmed the dress about eight inches and wore a tulle skirt underneath to give it a little flounce.

thegreatwaveWe shot the dress in the contemporary American wing on the third floor of the museum. Rather than shoot it in the Hokusai exhibit, I wanted a more modern backdrop. Hokusai was extremely ahead of his time and many of his works still feel very relevant. Here I’ve illustrated this by juxtaposing the old with the new.
