Heart on My Sleeve

November 9, 2018,
by Celina[zilla_likes]

When I turned 25 my mom (the original Celina) gave me this ring. It was a gift from my abuelos to my great aunt Maria in Argentina, a thank you for helping them immigrate the U.S. When Maria passed she left the ring to my mother.

As you’ve probably caught on from some of my posts, and my reading list, I’ve been connecting more and more to my Latina side lately. I wear this ring every day as a reminder of the women, like Maria, who came before me. If literature and life experience have taught me anything it’s that Latin women are strong as hell. I like to say it has “Celina magic” because my mom wore it before me.

I’ve always maintained that clothes have a special power. Changing my outfit can change my whole mood. When I’m wearing something I feel great in I perform at 110%. They weren’t lying when they said dress for the job you want, I just say dress for the life you want.

Wearing this ring has a similar effect. I feel extra confident and extra protected in it. It makes me think of the saying ‘wearing your heart on your sleeve’ except in this case my heart is on my finger. Do you have any special sartorial heirlooms that connect you to your ancestors?
