While in Portsmouth to preview restaurant week meals I had the pleasure of staying at the Water Street Inn. Just over the bridge in Kittery it’s a perfect blend of relaxing oasis and easily access to Portsmouth. The Inn is run by the same husband and wife duo who created Sailmaker’s House and who own many of the restaurants downtown. It’s a historic home that’s been renovated and appointed in a delightful, contemporary style.
The photo above is the view from my window looking out over the bridge and the water towards Portsmouth. My room was very comfortable with a queen sized bed, a television, and a huge, beautiful bathroom. I took advantage of using a tub that I’m not responsible for cleaning! One of the great things about the Water Street Inn is that it’s very friendly to savvy (or introverted) travelers. There’s no check in desk you just punch in your code at check in time and it unlocks the front door and the door to your room. There’s an inn manager always available in case you have any problems but otherwise you can keep to yourself which is a nice change from the forced socializing at some B&Bs.
In the lobby you’ll find a comfortable seating area, coffee, tea, juice, and snacks. They also have maps, attraction information, and some books for your perusal. As you know, I don’t have a car. So it’s definitely feasible to walk here from Portsmouth center. It’s only about 15 minutes and there’s a nice view. Not only is this an adorable and well appointed inn, it’s reasonably priced. The room I stayed in goes for a little over $100 a night. A steal compared to other lodging in the area. It would even make for a great staycation for locals who don’t want to have to worry about driving home.
Please note: I was provided with a complimentary stay at the Water Street Inn, however, all opinions expressed are my own.
