Summer Bucket List

June 21, 2019,
by Celina[zilla_likes]

Summer is theoretically coming, although the weather doesn’t always want to catch up. As we head into the warmer months I’ve started thinking about which quintessential Boston experiences I want to have. Here are my must-dos.

Attend (Many) Outdoor Dance Parties

Because it’s cold 90% of the time here in Boston, we get wild when the weather gets nice. One of my favorite events of the year is the Donna Summer Roller Disco held in City Hall Plaza (details here). It’s a night of crazy, 70s style, Queen Ms. Summer, and usually a few live performances as well. The City of Boston also sponsors Latinx music concerts every Thursday night in parks around the city, and you know that means salsa all night long!

Picnic, Picnic, Picnic

Picnicking is my all time favorite summer activity. It’s cheap, it allows you to enjoy the beautiful weather, and you control the menu. There’s nothing I love more than going to the esplanade with a friend (or by myself book in tow) with a bottle of wine and a basket of goodies.

Shakespeare in the Park

Boston’s version of Shakespeare in the Park is Shakespeare on the Common and it’s one of my favorite events of the summer season. This year they’re performing Cymbeline which is a piece I’m not too familiar with. I’m looking forward to seeing it live for the first time! Details for the show here, it’s free and open to the public.

One Off-the-Grid Day

I work all the time. And I have a lot of anxiety when I’m not working. In fact, the other day I had a few hours with no immediate work to get done, and I didn’t even know how to fill them. So I’ve been trying to learn how to relax more and have more boundaries. My goal this summer is to have one day where I don’t do any work. No e-mails, no to-do lists, no writing, nothing. Honestly I’m not sure I can do it, wish me luck!

What are your bucket list items for the summer?
