There’s nothing quite like a harbor cruise on the summer. Maybe it’s a lifetime of coastal living talking, but it doesn’t feel like vacation until you’re toasting on the ocean. Classic Harbor Line hosted me and a friend for one of their special summer cruises: Barbecue & Beers. During the warm months they have all kinds of fun, themed cruises to spice up your weekend.
After boarding the retro-style ship, you can grab a cocktail and enjoy a multi-course meal. Each trip features a different style of barbecue. The one I went on was Argentine-style feature empanadas, flank steak with chimichurri sauce, and spicy chorizo sausage. Needless to say, I was in heaven.
In keeping with the cruise title, the bar offers a number of beers on tap and a great selection of cans from local breweries. I love that it’s localized in that way. If you’re not into beer they also have surprisingly good craft cocktails (using liquor from Boston area distilleries).
We ended up with a bit of a blustery day and it was still an enjoyable experience. The dining area is covered and climate controlled and there are bathrooms so even a little rough weather wouldn’t dampen the experience. But it’s best when you can enjoy the upper deck and the views it offers of Boston’s skyline.
The BBQ series runs through September showcasing North Caroline, Jamaican Jerk, Spanish Seafood and Hawaiian barbecue styles. Check out the dates here.
Please note: I was provided with a complimentary cruise, however, all opinions expressed are my own.
