This summer is a little different, okay a lot different, than usual. But I’m trying to make the best of it by taking advantage of opportunities in nature and social-distanced settings. Here are a few things I’m excited to check off the list this summer.
Picnic, Picnic, Picnic
I’ve always been a big picnic advocate but now it’s one of the best options for social distanced hang outs with friends! A bottle of wine, some homemade charcuterie, and, if things really go well, a nap in the evening sun.
Hiking
I’m not a huge hiker but I do a couple a year, especially when I’m traveling and there’s a hike with a killer photo opportunity. Like these hot springs my brother and I hiked to in Santa Fe. Nowadays it’s a perfect way to commune with nature, relieve some stress, and stay apart.
Ice Cream Sundaes
It’s back to basics this year and an ice cream sundae on a hot evening was a blissful treat when I was a kid. It’s one of those food memories that takes me right back to childhood with every spoonful. It’s easy to grab a sweet something at JP Licks on Boylston Street and find a spot in the Fens to enjoy it. Here’s to a weekly sundae this year!
Beach Reads
I’ve never been much of a beach person, I have a lot of trouble sitting still and relaxing. But now that the universe has forced us to slow down, I’m coming around. My parents live near the beach so I have lots of opportunities for walks and suntanning when I visit. As long as I’ve got an umbrella and a stack of books, we can work with it!
Don Hopper says
Is that a recent photo? I don’t know where you are but that background is amazing.
Actually it doesn’t look real but I’m looking at it on my phone.
