Amazing news! All She Wrote Books, one of my favorite booksellers in Boston, has opened up a brick-and-mortar store in Assembly Row in Somerville. Christina who runs the shop actually managed to open during the pandemic. She’s amazing.
All She Wrote Books is a feminist bookstore that highlights POC, queer, and female authors that aren’t always celebrated in other publishing spaces. Basically Christina curates a list of everything I would ever be interested in reading in one place. When I first discovered All She Wrote Books they were just doing pop up shops at local markets. Christina made her dream of opening a physical store happen with astounding speed.
Last weekend I visited the shop with a friend and it’s an actual paradise. Right now they’re doing appointment only so you book a time and you have the whole store to yourself for an hour, for safety purposes. That also makes the experience much more relaxing. Christina is extremely knowledgeable and was able to chat with me in depth about any title I mentioned. That’s just one of the many perks of shopping with a true book lover.
I never really feel bad about spending money on books because reading is good for you and it’s one of my favorite things to do. But I feel even better about spending that money at a female-owned Somerville business where the money stimulates the local economy. All She Wrote Books also sells online if you’re not comfortable coming into the shop and Christina can order anything that you don’t see already available.
