My brother Nicholas and his girlfriend Anya bought me this shirt on their last trip to Ukraine, Anya’s homeland. The embroidery is a technique traditional to her hometown. I loved the shirt from the minute I saw it but it’s taken me some time to find the perfect way to style it. It’s like a new notebook, nothing is ever a good enough reason to use it.
Turns out this stunning garment is best when paired with a simple look to showcase the beautiful embroidery. I went with black high waisted jeans and boots.
And accessorized with an empanada.
Even though the shirt is Ukrainian it reminded me of Mexican florals as well. It’s interesting how those kinds of designs can pop up in different cultures. To play off that I paired the look with a new book “Mexican Gothic” and a pair of handmade heart earrings that give me Frida Kahlo vibes.
