Digs Enamels Studio Visit

September 18, 2020,
by Celina[zilla_likes]

I had the pleasure of visiting Digs Enamels at their studio in Lynn a few weeks ago and it was such a pleasure learning about their work! The studio is run by two very talented artists, Kate & Tim, and they make everything from buttons and beads to sculptures and framed artworks. I’ve of course seen enamel works before but I wasn’t very familiar with the process. Tim was gracious enough to demonstrate for me how a simple piece of metal becomes a beautiful, dynamic piece of art.

Right now Digs offers make-your-own necklace kits with their handmade, one-of-a-kind beads. This started as an initiative for the Girls Inc. group in Lynn to learn about design and enameling during COVID-19 in a safe way. Each girl got a kit and as was able to create her own masterpiece. That’s a spectacular way Digs has given back to the local community and its also turned into a wonderful product for purchase. This way you have control over the design, but still get to wear a custom art piece.

Tim and Kate can make custom art for your home as well, for example they do a morse code series and can spell out anything you’d like in dashes and dots either in a three dimensional sculpture or a pressed paper framed piece. If you’d rather take a hands on approach, Digs also offers in person workshops, something I’m hoping to take advantage of this fall.

Would you try your hand at an enameling class?
