While visiting Martha’s Vineyard two weeks ago I had the pleasure of staying at Hob Knob, a luxury boutique property just steps from downtown Edgartown. One of the beauties of Martha’s Vineyard is how it has retained its natural beauty and rich history, creating an oasis in a contemporary, consumer driven world. This is especially evident at Hob Knob, a nineteenth century residence that’s been repurposed as a charming hotel.
The outdoor spaces are particularly enchanting here. This wrap-around porch provides the perfect spot for morning coffee and the paper, an evening cocktail, or even a scenic workspace if you really must answer that e-mail. Both sides of the hotel also feature private seating areas, convenient for eating takeout in a safe, socially-distanced manner.
Breakfast is served every morning in the dining room and the kitchen staff is wonderfully merciful if you’re like me and need a pre-dawn caffeine fix. As the weather cools down you might find a crackling fire in the living room, just tempting enough to curl up beside with a book.
Hob Knob also offers spa services, a detail that I found unique to this kind of property. Historic bed and breakfasts abound in New England, but Hob Knob has found a way of blending that charm with the upscale amenities of a luxury hotel. Our tour guide from Visit Martha’s Vineyard mentioned that buying out the whole hotel is also a viable option. They’re running a promotion for Thanksgiving that allows one family to take over the hotel, complete with a multi-course holiday meal, for a safe and easy family reunion. It’s exciting to see the hospitality industry innovating in new ways during COVID-19.
On your Martha’s Vineyard getaway you don’t need to choose between historic charm and high-end comforts, the island, and Hob Knob, are abundant in both.
Please note: I was provided with a complimentary stay at Hob Knob hotel, however, all opinions expressed are my own.
