The winter of quarantine is upon us! Though the vaccine is in sight, most of us are still laying low this season. To keep my spirits up I’ve been relishing a few simple winter pleasures.
Knitting
I’m still sewing, of course, but I’ve also discovered the joys of knitting! I took an online class with local shop Third Piece and have made a few headbands and a scarf so far. My skills are pretty rudimentary, mostly just straight lines and simple stitches, but it’s very soothing to work on a cozy project while watching a movie at night.
At-Home Mixology
I’ve always loved a good cocktail and now I’ve taken to making them at home until I can read in bars again. It’s been fun to use ingredients found in your kitchen to make artisanal cocktails. My signature winter drink has been a Maple Whiskey Sour with bourbon, lemon juice, maple syrup, bitters, and an egg white.
Organizing
I thrive in a clean, organized space, I suppose we all do. So I’ve been taking some of this time to rethink my storage solutions. Cleaning things out and making fresh, more functional spaces has given me a sense of control and order in a chaotic time. It’s also helped me make room for all the clothes I’m sewing!
Baking
Though I love to cook, my tiny apartment kitchen has never been well suited to baking. But this year I’ve taken the plunge anyway, making a few different holiday cookies and baking bread on a more regular basis.
It’s been nice to exercise those sweeter culinary muscles.
