Regardless of my relationship status, I’ve always loved Valentines Day. To me it’s not just a day to celebrate romantic love but love of all kinds. I send cards and small gifts to family, friends, even my dog (no regrets). Showing my loved ones how much I care about them is one of my favorite things in the world to do, and Valentines Day is a great excuse to do so!
I was lucky to grow up in a family of wildly romantic love stories and it has not only showed me what I’m looking for in a partner, it’s taught me to celebrate love whenever possible. This year I’ll be celebrating by making flower arrangements with some of my elderly friends, cooking a nice multi-course meal, and queueing up a romantic comedy.
One of the reasons I love Russian literature so much is because it’s all darkness and nihilism and existential crises…until someone falls in love. And then suddenly, a meaningless, purposeless existence takes on a completely new color. I feel that perfectly sums up the absurdity of the human experience, and also reveals the truth to it.
Love is what makes life worth it, it’s the most important thing we have.
