Miss Benson’s Beetle*
This was a delightful novel following a middle aged woman in the U.K. who decides to hunt for a golden beetle in New Caledonia. She picks up an unlikely assistant and the two women have a wild adventure in a foreign territory, learning about the local wildlife and themselves. Highly recommend.
A Beautiful Question
Frank Wilczek
Written by a Nobel Prize winning physicist, this book explores the aesthetic beauty of universal scientific design. It’s a really interesting exploration. At times Wilczek conflates art and beauty, which I take issue with as an art writer, but overall the book was interesting and very accessible.
A Promised Land*
Barack Obama
I loved Michelle Obama’s memoir so A Promised Land seemed like a natural next step. Full disclosure, I’m still in the midst of it. It’s definitely a time commitment, but I’ve found it to be very enjoyable and easy to read. Obama is honest about his experiences but also fair to his opponents.
