It’s finally spring! And it certainly feels more hopeful than last spring which was dredged in uncertainty. Things are beginning to open back up, but very slowly here in Boston. Only a small percentage of people have been vaccinated. Still, there’s a lot I’m looking forward to doing this season.
Live Music
I really took for granted how many opportunities we have for live music in Boston. Last year, without being able to hear crooning in every park, I realized how lucky we are. This year I’m hoping to hear more live outdoor music, whether it’s buskers on the subway or a fully organized concert at the esplanade Hatch Shell.
Flower Picking
What could be a better socially distanced spring activity than picking flowers? Last year some friends brought me beautiful tulips from a farm in Rhode Island. This year I’m hoping to pick some of my own! I’m not great with growing plants so picking flowers feels like the most meditative alternative.
Long Walks…Well, Anywhere
The COVID-19 shutdowns really cut down on my daily walking quota. And I don’t mean that in a “my FitBit says I need more steps” way. Walking was one of my primary forms of exercise and also provided me with an opportunity to think things through. Hopefully the nice weather and less pressure to stay in our neighborhoods for safety will allow for more walks.
S’mores Over a Fire
I’ve been craving a good s’more since last summer. It’s slim pickings to find someone with a fire pit in the city. Well gosh darn it I’m getting my s’more this year! I want to sit by a fire with some good friends, chat about how things are looking up, and experience the delicious and perfect trio of flavors that is a s’more.
Local Travel
New England is stunning in all seasons, but in Spring and Fall in particular. I’m really looking forward to getting back into the travel game with local trips to see the region bloom. Not much is concrete yet but I’ll likely be making another trip back to the Vineyard, a trip out to Rockport, as well as a few excursions to Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire.
What are you looking forward to this spring?
