During the COVID-19 shutdowns I was extremely grateful for my neighborhood. Though we lost the restaurant and nightlife vibrancy of Fenway, the are has a lot that fortified me during the pandemic. For those that live here (the longtime residents, not the transient students) it’s a tight knit community and running into neighbors at the Post Office or outside the grocery store were welcome social moments.
We’re also lucky to have a big chunk of the Emerald Necklace, Frederick Law Olmsted’s park project that winds through Boston. Here in Fenway we have the Victory Gardens, the Back Bay Fens and the beginnings of the Muddy River and the Jamaicaway. Those green spaces were a sanctuary that much of neighborhood fled too for safe and soothing fun.
During those months I snapped a few photographs of the neighborhood, elements that I found beautiful, poignant, or funny to lift the heavy pandemic weight.
