“And this girl was from the Make a Wish Foundation,” says Cathy Reddington, smiling, as she flips through the scrapbook between us. “Her wish was to go to the VMA awards in California and walk the red carpet. We provided the dress, the shoes, everything.”
The girl in front of me in the scrapbook is just one of the many people and organizations that Cathy and her fellow boutique owner, Alissa Jacobs, have helped. Cathy is the owner of City Shoes and Alissa owns Le Club Boutique, two stores sharing one premises in downtown Portsmouth, NH. But their occupations go far beyond stocking retro heels and dainty dresses.
For these two store owners it’s not all about the bottom line, it’s about providing every customer that walks through their doors with a quality experience. When I first met the ladies they showed me around the store, offered suggestions on what pieces to try on, and helped me style the dress I picked out.
City Shoes stocks all varieties of footwear, from heels to flats to clogs to boots and back again. There are plenty of options for women with orthopedic needs, including a large selection of Wolky shoes with removable footbeds to accomodate orthopedic inserts.
Looking for a more trendy shoe? Never fear, Cathy also stocks popular items like the rain flats above (what a great idea!), Doc Martins, and the ever-popular cat shoes. Her vintage inspired collection has some of my favorites, with manageable heels and sassy colors.
The boutique also sells a variety of tights, shoe accessories, and bags.
Besides the exceptional customer service, the two boutiques also serve a wide demographic. “My goal is to have something for a girl your age, for her mother, and for the grandmother,” says Alissa. And they do. There are trendy dresses and funky heels that appeal to my style, as well as comfortable, practical options for a more mature woman.
Alissa stocks an incredible variety of styles and products in Le Club Boutique. Dresses, skirts, and shirts are her specialty but there are pant options available as well. She sells special occasion dress for prom, weddings, and the like, as well as more casual pieces for everyday.
Additionally, Alissa has a large selection of accessories. Jewelry, purses, scarves, belts, you name it – she has it. The great things about this array of products is that the ladies will help you style any piece with the proper accessories. And they know their stuff, in fact, Alissa and Cathy dressed 2013 Mrs. NH for the Mrs. USA competition.

On July 18th, I’ll be hosting an event at their Portsmouth location with the lovely ladies themselves! Stay tuned for more information.
