I take a book with me everywhere. It could be a black-tie event, you can bet I stuffed a paperback into that clutch. When I was younger I used to read in trees cause I wanted to be like Johnny Appleseed. (I grew up in New Hampshire, what can you do?) Now one of my favorite spots to get away from the noise of the city is a little corner of the Back Bay Fens. Just a few blocks from my house, hidden in the sprawling Emerald Necklace, there’s a little cove of trees by the river.
I usually go there Sunday evenings after I’ve checked enough boxes off my to-do list. I bring a bottle of wine and a good book and enjoy being by myself. In this outfit I can imagine I’m reclining by the Seine instead of sitting in some sticks in the backwoods of Boston. This is the kind of sophisticated bohemian vibe I imagine would fit well with a nice Chardonnay and a view of the Eiffel Tower.
