This week a little slice of Russia arrived at my doorstep! While I was in Moscow I spent hours researching local jewelry shops to pick up a ring in. I love the idea of jewelry as a keepsake of an important occasion but I wanted it to be a local shop not just a Russian chain of a worldwide brand. It also needed to be budget friendly.
It took my travel companions and I three miles of walking and a good half hour of help from a local to find Moonka Studio (sorry guys!) but boy was it worth it! The tiny jewelry designer in the trendy Patriarch’s Pond district of Moscow was exactly what I wanted. Local, contemporary, and budget friendly.
I picked out this ring as my keepsake. I wanted something with malachite because it’s mined in the Ural Mountains and was used to decorate a lot of the imperial palaces. Though my Russian guides told me most women in the country don’t wear the stone because of the bold color, I fell in love with it. The open design and citrine accents are the icing on the cake.
Because malachite isn’t a big seller to locals they had to make the ring, which is why I didn’t receive it until this week. But now every time I look down at my finger I’m reminded of my great Russian adventure.
