In this case I don’t mean Georgia the state, but Georgia O’Keeffe, crowned jewel of the Santa Fe art scene. As part of our whirlwind trip to New Mexico, we visited her home in Abiquiu. Naturally I wanted to dress the part. In homage to the great artist I wore black and white, her preferred color scheme. I estimate this demur sweater to be circa 1960s, during her lifetime.
The Peabody Essex exhibit on her style taught me that she often wore a hat in New Mexico for the practicality of shading her face from the sun. She was also known for full, comfortable silhouettes and flat shoes.
Georgia often painted cow skulls and incorporated them into her work. I reference that symbol with this ring of the same shape. It also doubles great as a weapon and a bottle opener as needed.Skirt: c/o Rainbow Shops, Sweater: Vintage, Hat: Charming Charlie’s, Flats: Nine West c/o Macy’s, Ring: a now-closed Boston boutique
